Hit again to remove the filter. Filtering is possible only for explicite values (+/-/√), not for undefined features. Combining multiple filters results in a logical AND condition, i.e. only phones/phonemes are shown that match all of them.

sort the table by this feature. Hit again to reverse sort direction

highlight the "essential" features for this phone/phoneme

Click again to remove the highlighting. The "essential" features are calculated on runtime by chosing the minimal set of features that identifies the phone/phoneme in relation to the currently loaded set of phones/phonems (filtering is ignored!). If multiple identifying combinations with the same number of features are possible, features more to the left are preferred. This calculation is not based on any phonetical or phonological criteria, but just dumb counting and comparing of the list items!

☰ open the menue and find the following options:

• "Select Elements": Change the current set of phones/phonemes.

  Either choose the phonemes of a language or choose "all" to get language independent phones. There is no consensus about what phonetic sounds exist, nor what phonemes individual languages have. Therefor you might find more than one set for your language! The sources on which the respective selections are based are listed in the "about" page (link in the footer).

• "Filter by Class": These are predefined sets of filters to filter for the respective classes of phones/phonemes.

  Their function is similar to manually set the respective filters.
